Mimekoto 2
Mimekoto 2 – Portrait as a Identity Work and Strengthening the Experience of Meaningfulness and Inclusion of Older People is a project implemented in Helsinki, Finland in 2023–2024. The project targets older people who live at home, as well as their caregivers and clients of service centres.
Building upon the foundations laid in Mimekoto 1, the project will further develop the Portrait method. It will foster the creation of comprehensive local art services, incorporating artistic methods into organisational development and volunteer work. Moreover, the project will enhance the capabilities of artists, thereby bolstering the field of social practice arts.
The outcomes of the project will encompass the production of 100 portraits of elderly people, a course on urn-making facilitated by elderly individuals, and the creation of urns by the participants themselves. Additionally, there will be a traveling exhibition, three visual arts exhibitions, and a final exhibition held at the Roihuvuor, Laajasalo as well as Vuotalo and Stoa cultural centres.
The project is produced by Afabi Association, with visual artist Soile Kortesalmi conceptualising and organising
it´s implementation. The project has been kindly supported by the City of Helsinki.
